DIY Dry Shampoo for Brunettes !!

Ok , so this isn’t exactly food related , but it’s just such an amazing thing I just had to share it .

I was actually just very very sick of having a white powdery layer of dry shampoo on my hair . They say “Blondes have all the fun ” , I don’t know how far that’s true , but I do know it’s frustrating not having a proper dry shampoo !  So I googled it and found the perfect homemade diy dry shampoo and it works so well I can’t even tell you !

Ingredients:

Measuring spoon

Cocoa

Cornflour

Measuring cup ( optional)

Plastic Bottle (  storage)

Ingredients

Ingredients

Method :

I use the ratio of 3:1 of cocoa to cornflour . So in a mixing bowl , or as I’ve used a Measuring cup add 3 tbs of cocoa and 1 tbs of cornflour , I did so by passing it through a sieve as it helps eliminate the lumps .

Once that is done you can transfer the contents to the plastic bottle for storage

For use , simple take a little bit in your palms  and spread it evenly by rubbing it on both your palms . Then just run your hands through your hair and Voila it’s done . If you feel like there is a bit too much on your hair just comb through it once , it should be fine and should eliminate the excess .

Not only is this SUPER DUPER easy and chemical free , but also leaves you smelling great all day , literally makes me hungry everytime I smell my hair or if a gush of wind blows through my hair . Initially I was a bit scared that if I sweat the cocoa would stain my clothes, but it doesn’t if you apply the correct amount , on the contrary when you sweat , the smell of the cocoa intensifies leaving you hungry .

I have been using it for over an year now and I have no complaint , I’ve actually gotten a lot of friends hooked to this . Ahh the power of cocoa ….

A must try out for brunettes

Gajalee Review :D

Guess where I am guess where I am :p
So we are now at Gajalee, remember from my day of Something’s fishy ? ?
And I cannot tell you how much better this is !!
If you are a fish lover and live in Mumbai and don’t know about Gajalee I honestly don’t know what you’re doing in life!
Now Gajalee has a lot of branches all over Mumbai , I obviously am at the one near my house in seepz .
Here’s what we ordered:
Butter garlic prawns
A tandoori Rawas
And Roti
Now now I know this sound like much but have you seen a freaking Rawas? It’s HUGE ! Which is why we always end up ordering it
Ok so the first course was the Butter Garlic Prawns which were a but tooo buttery but that just made the taste even better so I guess no one is complaining well maybe my doctor is but what he doesn’t know won’t hurt him shhh . There were about 8 pieces in it and they don’t spare the garlic either which again I’m not complaining again because I love garlic ( apologies to future boyfriend)
Then came the king of this meal, the Tandoori Rawas now please note if you do order for the tandoori Rawas , do so just when you enter otherwise you shall end up hungry for a long time because this takes time , though it is totally worth the wait ! The fish was perfectly cooked with the flavour of the marinade smoked through , I had only one roti , but my God was I full ! Again be careful with the bones in the fish! And do try it with the green chutney they give at the begining it’s amazing !

All in all , satisfied customers for sure ! Though if I do have to point out a con , it would be that the service is a bit slow especially when you order rotis. And this is not something that’s happened for the first time , it’s just always the  case , maybe the tandoor isn’t right or something I don’t know but the manage did tell us that if we order chappati it would come earlier so I guess that’s a point you can keep in mind  if you decide to go there .

Also , I have Hay Fever so the cold blocked the smell otherwise the place reeks of that smell which I understand is very intollerable especially for a vegetarian , my mother absolutely refuses to go there , so if you are thinking of going with a vegeterian , think twice , not that their vegetarian food isn’t delicious , it is , it’s just uncomfortable for a while .

The bill came upto about 1584 INR with taxes which I think is pretty good because it was my father , my brother and I . Which if you’re Indian enough , you wouldv’ve mentally calculated it as approx 528 INR much lesser that what we spent at   Something’s fishy  and much much much more satisfying .

Bonus : Even though this is something I’ve had before at Gajalee , you have to try their Mutton Biriyani as well , it’s to die for !

Hope you’ve enjoyed this post xx

Eggless Chocolate Cake <3

Ok so one of my closest friends is studying in UK and he decided he was going to come and visit home , ofcourse he told me , but it was more of a surprise for everyone else ( I’m such a secret keeper you see) . So I decided I’d make him a cake for when he was back . My only problem was I knew only how to make a cake with  egg in it , and it always happens that one of my friends cannot eat it because she’s vegetarian and I always end up feeling bad 😦 So I decided enough is enough I’m making and Eggless one .

After extensively watching a LOT of youtube videos and blog posts and all I finally came up with a recipe . Now this isn’t entirely mine, but I have taken into consideration a lot of recipes and finally come up with a super recipe, for an eggless chocolate cake.

Ingridients

200ml condensed milk

50 g butter + extra to grease the pans

20g of castor sugar if you want it
sweeter

100g dark/ milk chocolate whatever you like

1 can of diet coca cola  ( preferably diet but if you can’t get your hands on it , normal will do )

1 cup flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

3tbsp cocoa powder

For ganache (optional)

250g white chocolate

200 ml fresh cream ( I used Amul)

Method:

Start by melting the butter so it’s soft enough and mix it with the condensed milk in another bowl . Mix it constantly till it’s well incorporated

Then grease and line your pans. Because after this , the cake batter will come up within minutes. Also Preheat your oven at 180 degrees Celsius which is almost 350 Fahrenheit

Next in a separate bowl sift together the flour, baking soda, baking powder , salt and cocoa and give it a good mix .

Melt the dark/milk chocolate in the microwave and mix it in with the condensed milk and butter till incorporated .

Then slowly add all the dry ingredients to the wet and mix it . The batter will be very thick and this is where the can of coca cola comes in hand . Open the can and slowly keep adding as much as you need to get it to a thinner , batter like consistency .

Note: Initially it may not seem like it’s coming together , but trust me it will .

Then pour the batter in the pans and bake it at 180 degrees for about 30 minutes but check at 15 minutes to see how far along it is as different ovens have different power also the consistency of your batter makes a difference .

While the cake is in the oven , in a pan over low heat , bring the cream to a slight simmer ,cut up your white chocolate and put it in a bowl . Once you see bubbles appearing at the edge of the pan , the cream is ready .

Pour it over the chocolate and let it sit for atleast 2 minutes.

Then stir and ensure the chocolate has completely melted and there are no lumps . Then leave it aside to cool , once cooled let it sit in the refrigerator for atleast half an hour

Note: It is REALLY hot in Mumbai , which means your ganache will melt very easily so you may have to refrigerate it for much longer

Once done get the ganache out and whip it till you have soft peaks and the refrigerate it again . By this time your cake should be ready as well , so get it out of the oven and let it cool completely

Once cooled , slice the cake into half and if you want spread the ganache , but I spread a bit of  Nutella because it just gives it a different taste.

Then sandwich the cake back together and use the ganache to do the icing on top . I just spread it evenly and then refrigerated it again , it came out very glossy looking .

If you aren’t making it for a special occasion you can have it just like that , but if it’s an occasion you can do a milk chocolate lace around the cake like I did or write a message on top of the cake . But be very careful because as in my case because of the heat , the chocolate decorations kept melting 😦 I had to do half my work in the freezer

Nonetheless everyone enjoyed the cake and it was a hit ! I was surprised too as it was the first time I attempted an eggless chocolate cake .

Hope you enjoyed the recipe

Something’s Fishy -Seafood & More Buffet

So it was Good Friday yesterday and my mother wasn’t home , she’s gone to visit her parents for a few days which essentially means we’re all starving ( kidding ma  we aren’t :p) . Ok so we weren’t starving , but we were hungry and were looking for a place to eat , it was debate between an Ol Classic Gajalee , or a new place which we’ve wanted to try aka Tunga International’s “Something’s Fishy – Seafood & More” ,if you haven’t guessed by now, the theme is fish

So my father and I , after much contemplation and reading various Zomato reviews decided to go and try out the new place ( If that wasn’t evident from the title of this post ) and Something was Fishy alright , but it wan’t the fish , heck there wasn’t much fish !

Note to self ( yes I shall occasionally type out reminders to myself in this fashion) : Any place that has a tagline with the word “MORE” in it , is basically telling you , terms and conditions apply .

And such was the case here.

Something’s Fishy – Seafood & More

Tunga International Hotel,

MIDC, Central Road,

Andheri East,

Mumbai

Now I shall list down the buffet spread:

It is 695 INR per person incl taxes

Soup : Cream of Veg  or  Chicken Manchow

Starters:  Veg Hara Bhara kebabs                           Mutton seekh Kebabs

Paneer Kohliwada                                     Chicken Chilly

Veg Crispy                                                    Chutneywalli Fish

Main:   Veg Hakka Noodles / Veg Fried Rice / Stir Fried Veg in Red Sauce

Ameti                        Prawn Tawa Masala

Aloo Methi              Chicken Malwani

Tripoli Veg              Goan Fish Curry

Malwani Fish ( halwa)

Dessert : Blackcurrent Pastry /Carrot Cake/ Alpine Mousse / Rasgulla/Angoori Gulab Jamun/ Ice Cream/Seviyan

Ofcouse there was the usual Salads/Raita /Chutneys etc , Also Aam Panna as a Welcome Drink

Yes yes , I know it sound like a fabulous spread when written down like this , but trust me it was far from impressive . Firstly as you can see , it’s not that big a spread and there isn’t much seafood , when they say “Seafood and MORE” , they mean the MORE part . It wan’t just the size of the spread , it was the taste of the food , which was highly ok . Here is the breakdown :

Soup : LOVED it , but it may also be because I have Hay Fever and about anything warm just makes me feel nice so for all I know they just gave me salted warm water , JK no the soup was really well balanced ,flavoured and seasoned and was genuinely good , who doesn’t love a good Manchow

Starters : Highly ok , firstly they were all cold , so 1) bad for Hay Fever ( WAAH WAAH WAHH) 2 ) Cold crispy veg and cold fish donnot taste very good.

I had both veg and non- veg starters ( told ya I had an appetite)  and none impressed me and it’s not like I’m freaking Gordon Ramsay

Main : The Vegetarian was absolutely blah , the tripoli veg was like the normal mix veg in basically any restaurant , was cold , that’s actually one of my biggest complaint , the food was really cold in the non-vegetarian  the chicken wasn’t great , neither was the prawns , the fish curry was wayyyyyyyyy tooo runny

Dessert : Ok this may sound weird but I judge a buffet by it’s dessert spread, there I said it . And though the dessert spread was pretty decent , there were certainly some pros and cons . The blackcurrent pastry was very good , soft sponge fresh icing , all in all good , the carrot cake was wayyy too sweet  so were the rasgullahs and gulabjamuns , ice cream was the same it is everywhere and the seviyan was ok .What dissapointed me most was the Alpine” Mousse ” . I don’t get is why do Indian restaurants do this , there is  a HUGE difference between a Mousse and a Soufle . And they just love interchanging both. Yes , it wasn’t an Alpine Mousse but a Souffle .NOT A MOUSSE . More like NOT AMUSED ( I make puns , you’ll get used to it )

So ya , all in all , not amused . We should’ve stuck with the classic and gone to  Gajalee 😦

Verdict : Nope , not going back there reasons being

1) Not enough Seafood for calling it a seafood buffet

2) Highly Ok food

3) All the food was COLD

3) Calling a Souffle a Mousse is not acceptable

4) There are better buffets in the same rate

The only thing good about Somthing’s Fishy is probably their staff , very prompt service .

But ya , not going back .

Hope you enjoyed this post xx
